St. Lawrence Seaway Outdoor Adventure: Day One
Walk, Blade, or Bike the Maple City Trail
A SCENIC PAVED TRAIL ALONG THE RIVER
Start your day on the Maple City Trail. This trail follows the St. Lawrence River and the Oswegatchie River, winding beneath and across 3 different bridges. Spot all kinds of wildlife, including deer, herons, jumping fish, beavers, muskrats, and more.
Along the way, you'll pass Sweet Emilie's Coffee & Ice Cream where you can grab a smoothie or a light breakfast.

Kayak the St. Lawrence River
RIVER VIEW DINING + KAYAK RENTALS
Next stop: Hosmer’s Marina. Rent a kayak and grab a yummy snack (like ice cream!)—then paddle out onto one of the longest, most picturesque rivers in North America! You can paddle to the nearby lighthouse at the historic Fort de la Presentation grounds or head toward the nearby port. Out on the St. Lawrence River, you're apt to share the waterways with boats of all kinds, from motorized leisure and fishing boats to sailing vessels to thousand foot cargo ships that make trips all over the world.

Birding at Red Barn Wetland Preserve
FOR CASUAL AND SEASONED BIRDERS
Less than an hour away, discover the Red Barn Preserve. Operated by the Morristown Gateway Museum, the 160-acre nature preserve and wetlands is open all year and offers outstanding opportunities for blue heron sightings.

Waddington Concert Series
OUTDOOR LIVE MUSIC
Time for some tunes! Catch live music outside as the sun starts to set over the water. Free concerts on Friday evenings from 6:30pm-8:30pm (sometimes longer.) Relax and enjoy the show.

Camp at Coles Creek State Park
Pitch your tent at a wooded or open campsite near the swimming beach on Lake St. Lawrence. If you make a reservation within 3 days of your arrival, you can book a 1-night stay online or through the RA Call Center (1-800-456-2267). Applies to campsites only.

Cast a Line and Experience Premier Fishing
GUIDED OPTIONS, CASUAL CASTS, & SPECIAL EVENTS
You don’t have to be a pro to fish like one. Get up early and catch a big one! Get all the gear you need from Hosmer's Marina and fish at the docks or along the Maple City Trail, or head toward to Massena to rent a boat and cast your line. Find a local guide to take you on the water to fish all kinds of species, from our famous bass and carp to the legendary muskies.
SPECIAL EVENTS
In July and August, time your visit just right and attend major fishing events like the Bassmaster Elite Series in Waddington, NY, Major League Fishing in Massena, NY, and the Carp Marathon with land-based fishing locations from Ogdensburg, NY to Massena, NY.


Ride the Iroquois Dam Horse Trail

Location: A parking area is located down the dirt dam access road, four miles west of Waddington on Route 37. Park before the gate.

Explore the Nicandri Nature Center
FREE EXHIBITS AND FREE GEAR RENTALS AVAILABLE
Hiking trails—with free gear rentals—plus enchanting nature exhibits are yours to enjoy at the Nicandri Nature Center. The center itself offers a variety of interactive exhibits plus information and exhibits for local and exotic wildlife. A network of trails with gentle hills and scenic views along the St. Lawrence River are a great place for spotting wildlife and enjoying nature.

Bike the Richard's Landing Dike Trail
A SCENIC RIDE ALONG WITH NATURAL VIEWS
The Richard's Landing Dike Trail is excellent for bicycling, walking, and running with beautiful views of the St. Lawrence River. The trail also passes by the Massena Beach park.
Location: The trailhead begins at the Massena Intake Dam off Route 131


Cap the Evening at the Yellow Barn Concert Series
LIVE OUTDOOR MUSIC
A little over an hour away, The Iva Smith Memorial Gallery of Fine Art welcomes you to their annual Yellow Barn Concert Series. Check out this outdoor summer series with various dates typically held June - September. Tickets are usually $10 at the door. Children 12 and younger get in free.
