The SLLI Program
The primary program for the St. Lawrence Leadership Institute is a 9-month series of classes held once a month from September to May. The scope and relevance of the program make it a valuable experience for lifelong and longtime residents of St. Lawrence County as well as for newcomers to the area. SLLI participants come from small businesses and major industries, from elementary and secondary schools as well as colleges and universities, and from the public and non-profit sectors. Applications for the 2024-2025 class are due by August 15th. However, applications are accepted on a rolling basis until the class limit is reached. Click here to get started.
A Collaborative Role in Our Future
Participants benefit by achieving a better understanding of major public policy issues facing St. Lawrence County and its communities; by learning, practicing and improving their leadership skills in a supportive environment; and by gaining access to a diverse network of community leaders.
Personal Growth
Inspiring leaders know how to effectively articulate their vision for a preferred future to others. They know their own strengths and weaknesses. SLLI gives participants opportunities to develop and hone skills that guide their relationships with others. A candid self-assessment of one’s leadership style, with its advantages and disadvantages, is an important first step in the program.
What to expect...
Class Schedule — The class meets the first Wednesday of each month, beginning in September.
Times — Sessions run from 4:00p.m. – 7:45p.m. A networking dinner is served at each class.
Attendance — As this is an investment in your personal growth, we encourage you to participate in each live session, discussion forums, and activities. You will get out of the program what you invest in it. We will record sessions should you miss one, and ensure you have access to all materials if you are absent.
Curriculum
The leadership institute program is carefully crafted with two very specific yet very interrelated topics. The first, is leadership and professional growth. Participants will examine key concepts related to leadership, and will practice implementation through self-reflection and activity based exercises. Second, the program will examine the role we play as citizens of our community in key topics such as economic development, government, quality of life, and others. Guest speakers take participants on a journey of these issues by providing critical information for today, as well as how we can be a part of the solution for change in the future. The community panels allow participants the opportunity to start building their networks across the community.
Your Investment
The 9-month course, including course materials, is presented at a fee of $750. It is very common for employers to sponsor individuals and we encourage you to speak with your supervisor. This option is noted on the application form for ease of billing. There are scholarships available to subsidize the fees. A specific scholarship is available for non-profit emerging leaders. Please contact laura@slcchamber.org for more details. The greatest investment is of your time and interest in this opportunity. We hope you will jump in and enjoy learning about yourself, your potential and the community you live and work in.
